September 2, 2025,
Dear PS 80Q School Community,
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We recently conducted a school-wide survey to gather insights from our families, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable—it helps us better understand our strengths and identify areas where we can grow together. In this letter, we’d like to share the key findings and outline the steps we’ll be taking to address them.
Highlights from the NYC School Survey
What is the NYC School Survey?
Each year, all families, teachers, and students in grades 6-12 take the NYC School Survey to share feedback about their schools. The NYC School Survey is one of the nation’s largest education surveys. Survey feedback can help improve your child’s learning environment.

What is the PS 80Q - Home of the Foxes, proud of? Where can we improve?
As Principal of PS 80 Thurgood Marshall Magnet School, I am proud to share the results of our 2024–2025 NYC Panorama Survey, which reflect the strength, unity, and excellence of our school community. With 33 staff and 134 family responses, the data highlights a shared commitment to inclusivity, safety, and academic success. Our school received outstanding marks in areas such as Cultural Awareness and Inclusive Instruction (97% staff, 96% families), Safety (94% staff, 99% families), and Outreach to Parents (99% staff, 93% families), demonstrating that our efforts to foster a welcoming and equitable environment are deeply felt across all stakeholders. Trust between teachers, families, and leadership remains a cornerstone of our culture, with over 95% favorable ratings in Parent–Teacher and Teacher–Teacher Trust. Families expressed high satisfaction with their children's education and the quality of instruction, while staff affirmed strong instructional leadership and professional collaboration. These results are a testament to the dedication of our educators, the engagement of our families, and the resilience of our students. Together, we continue to build a school where every child is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
While our Panorama Survey results reflect many strengths, they also highlight areas where we can continue to grow. Both staff and families expressed a desire for expanded enrichment opportunities and stronger support around college and career readiness. In response, I am thrilled to announce that this school year we will launch a fully funded after school program, OPUS, which will focus on the arts and provide students with enriching, creative experiences beyond the school day. Additionally, we will work to strengthen communication around available services, deepen our equity-focused conversations, and increase opportunities for staff and families to influence school decisions. These steps reflect our commitment to continuous improvement and to ensuring that every child at PS 80Q thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.
How does your feedback help PS 80Q do better?
Based on the feedback we received, we are proud to recognize several areas of strength that align closely with our school’s mission and goals. Families and students consistently highlighted our strong sense of community, where everyone feels welcomed and supported. Our instructional practices were also praised, with many noting that our teachers use effective strategies that foster student engagement and academic growth. Additionally, the positive school climate was a recurring theme, with students expressing that they feel safe, respected, and valued within our learning environment.
However, the feedback also pointed to areas that require further attention. Communication emerged as a key concern, with families requesting more timely and transparent updates. There was also a desire for expanded enrichment opportunities, including more extracurricular activities and advanced learning programs. Attendance and punctuality were identified as ongoing challenges that need consistent focus. In response, we are taking actionable steps to address these priorities. We plan to implement a new communication platform to improve outreach and engagement with families. We are exploring partnerships with local organizations to offer a wider range of after-school programs. Additionally, we will launch an attendance awareness campaign that includes incentives to encourage consistent student participation. These efforts are designed to ensure that our school continues to grow in alignment with our mission and the needs of our community.
How are Results Used at the Citywide Level?
Survey data guides Citywide professional development initiatives and outreach, such as Bullying Prevention Trainings for schools that score relatively low on the Preventing Bullying measure. Results appear in the School Quality Snapshot to help families evaluate and select appropriate schools for their student(s). The results inform citywide program evaluations and research to ensure students receive high-quality supports and services. Additionally, survey findings are included in the Mayor's Management Report, a legally mandated document that demonstrates how effectively city agencies are serving the public. NYC School Survey results are publicly available and are used in many ways by Community-based organizations, Universities, and beyond.
