ASY 2025 - 2026
At P.S.80Q, scholars will engage in explicit instruction that is intentionally designed to meet their individual learning needs through targeted small group instruction. P.S.80Q will continue to focus on step-by-step teacher modeling, guided practice, checks for understanding, and clear learning intentions that support mastery of grade-level standards in reading and writing.
ASY 2025 -2026
To build teacher capacity at P.S.80Q, we will strengthen the delivery of explicit instruction through targeted, grade-band professional learning for K-2 and 3-5. By tailoring support through focused development sessions, teachers will be better equipped with clear, actionable strategies to implement in their classrooms that will help track and progress monitor academic growth and success. This approach will enhance their ability to deliver rigorous, data-driven instruction that actively engages all scholars in reading and writing.
Dear Parents, Guardians, and PS80Q Foxes,
April 2026,
As April arrives and spring weather sets in, we enter a critical time in the school year. This final stretch of the 2025-2026 school year is academically important, and we remain focused on maintaining high expectations for all scholars. We thank our families for their continued partnership in supporting student success.
Testing Season Is Underway:
P.S.80Q has officially entered the New York State testing season. Students in grades 3-5 will participate in assessments in ELA, Math, and Science (Grade 5 only). Testing dates are listed in the Gentle Reminders section of our school calendar. Our scholars have been intentionally prepared through classroom instruction, MTSS Tier 2 interventions, and Test Prep Boot Camp. We expect scholars to approach testing with focus, effort, and seriousness.
Spring Recess: April 2, 2025 - April 10, 2026:
Spring Recess will take place from Thursday, April 2nd through Friday, April 10th. School will resume on Monday, April 13, 2026. Scholars are expected to return on time, prepared, and ready to meet academic and behavioral expectations.
P.S.80Q Schoolwide Behavioral Expectations:
As the weather improves, out of building class trips take place. These opportunities are privileges that require responsible behavior. It is critical that all scholars follow school rules, staff directives, and safety expectations at all times- in the building, on school grounds, and during out of building trips and activities.
Be mindful that when scholars fail to follow behavioral expectations, participation in school trips and extracurricular activities may be restricted or revoked. We ask families to reinforce the importance of respectful behavior, self-control, and safe decision-making both in and out of school.
We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to ensure a safe, structured, and productive learning environment. With strong expectations and consistent partnerships, our scholars will continue to grow and succeed.
Instructionally Yours,
Ms. Maura McShane,
Principal, P.S.80Q
Dear Parents, Guardians, and PS80Q Foxes,
February 2026,
In the blink of an eye, January is now complete, and we are moving forward into the month of February. Although February is the shortest month, it is certainly filled with important learning opportunitites and exciting milestones for our scholars.
Beginning this month, our K-2 and 3-5 Instructional After-School Program will officially begin. Scholars who are attending have already recived acceptance slips, and we look forward to providing them with additional academic support and enrichment beyond the school day.
We will also begin preparing our Grade 3-5 scholars for computer-based testing. Scholars will have the opportunity to practice using school devices so they can become comfortable navigating digital platforms and tools similar to those used during the state assessments. This preperation is key to helping scholars feel confident and successful.
In addition, we will be conducting our benchmark assessments in ELA and Math for Grades 3-5, along with academic benchmark assessments for our K-2 scholars. These assessments help us monitor progress, identify strengths, and determine areas where additional support may be needed. Please ensure that scholars are completing all at-home activities, as continued practice reinforces learning and growth.
Teachers have identified some scholars who are currently not meeting grade-level standards, and whose promotion may be in question. If you received communication regrading this please be sure to schedule a meeting with your child's teacher as soon as possible. These meetings are essential for discussing next steps and creating a plan to help bring your scholar to the grade-level standards they are expected to meet.
As we move through the winter season, please remember to stay warm, remain thankful, and never hesitate to reach out if you need support. I truly look forward to our continued at-home collaboration and partnership, as together we work to ensure the highest potential and success you and your child. Thank you for your ongoing commitment, trust, and partnership.
Instructionaly Yours,
Maura McShane, Principal
